Trump Visits Switzerland for Economic Forum
Trump’s arrival was slightly delayed after the presidential aircraft, Air Force One, had to return to Washington because of mechanical difficulties, a media outlet noted earlier.
The head of state eventually touched down at Zurich airport following the return of his original plane to Joint Base Andrews near Washington on Tuesday evening. He then boarded a substitute jet and departed shortly after midnight.
Trump is expected to deliver remarks to international business executives and government decision-makers at 2:30 pm local time (1330GMT). According to the media outlet, a representative of the World Economic Forum confirmed that the schedule for the speech remained unchanged despite the setback.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that the crew identified a “minor electrical issue” shortly after takeoff, which led Air Force One to reverse course “out of an abundance of caution.”
A news agency, quoting a senior White House official who requested anonymity, reported that Trump felt “emboldened” by the recent US military mission earlier this month that removed Venezuela’s long-standing leader Nicolas Maduro.
The official also mentioned that Trump is motivated by preliminary initiatives to establish a “Board of Peace” aimed at addressing global conflicts.
