Israel Reviews Regional Risks Amid Potential US Attack on Iran

(MENAFN) Israel’s security cabinet meets on Sunday to deliberate over the possibility of a US attack on Iran and the potential for a wider conflict across the region, as stated by reports.

According to reports, cabinet members are scheduled to receive detailed briefings covering Iran and various regional developments, based on assessments that Washington might carry out a military strike against Tehran in the near term.

Before the cabinet session, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a separate meeting with a small group of advisers and security personnel to evaluate how the Lebanese organization Hezbollah could react if the US launches an attack on Iran. Reports indicate that Israeli officials remain split on whether Hezbollah would directly engage Israel in such a scenario.

Sources suggest that there is a common belief in Israel that Iran might attempt to gain additional time by offering new proposals concerning its nuclear program. However, reports highlight that the likelihood of achieving an agreement at this stage remains low due to persistent disagreements between the United States and Iran.

Following his recent meeting in Washington with US President Donald Trump, Netanyahu reportedly conveyed his difficulty in interpreting Trump’s position on Iran. “Is he still with us? I’m worried,” Netanyahu reportedly asked an American official after the meeting, as stated by reports.

It has also been noted that the third round of indirect nuclear discussions between Iran and the United States, facilitated by Oman, is scheduled for Feb. 26 in Geneva, Switzerland. The talks initially began in Oman on Feb. 6 and later continued in Geneva on Feb. 17.

Key topics under discussion include Iran’s uranium enrichment levels and the status of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, according to reports.
